ARTIST INFORMATION
HARRI SJÖSTRÖM
Finnish soprano and sopranino saxophonist based in Berlin since 1985. A key figure in European contemporary improvised music for over four decades, Sjöström studied with Steve Lacy among others and has collaborated extensively with Cecil Taylor, Derek Bailey, Alexander von Schlippenbach, Paul Lovens, John Russell and many more. He has founded or co-founded numerous ensembles including Quintet Moderne, MOVE, The Player Is and City Of Pyramids, and is the founder and Artistic Director of the SoundScapes Festival series.

VIV CORRINGHAM
British vocalist and sound artist based in New York, described as “a vital force in improvised music since the late 1970s” (BBC Radio 3) and “a vocalist of stunning virtuosity” (The Wire). Her practice explores the relations between voice, place and walking through concerts, soundwalks, workshops and installations. She is a certified Deep Listening facilitator who studied with Pauline Oliveros, and her long-running “Shadow-walks” project has taken place in 18 countries. Recent work includes the album Soundwalkscapes (Flaming Pines).

LAWRENCE CASSERLEY
Pioneer of live electronic processing as an instrument in its own right. Born in 1941, he was one of the first students on the Electronic Music course at the Royal College of Music and later became Professor-in-Charge of Studios there. Since the late 1990s he has focused on free improvisation using his specially developed Signal Processing Instrument, which transforms the sounds of other musicians in real time. Best known for his long collaboration with Evan Parker and the Evan Parker Electro-Acoustic Ensemble (ECM), he has also worked extensively with Philipp Wachsmann, Jean-Michel Van Schouwburg, Viv Corringham, Harri Sjöström and many others.

JEAN-MICHEL VON SCHOUWBURG
Belgian vocal improviser based in Brussels. A long-standing member of the Inaudible Collective, he has developed a highly personal language of extended vocal techniques — from low throat singing and overtones to high falsetto, yodels, multiphonics and “phonoetry” (phonésie). Self-taught as a vocalist since the mid-1990s, he has performed across Europe and collaborated with John Russell, Lawrence Casserley, Gianni Mimmo, Paul Dunmall and many others. His solo work Orynx and duo recordings with Casserley (MouthWind) are key documents of his distinctive approach.

LEV DUDAS
Born in Bačka Topola (former Yugoslavia, now Serbia), Lev explores electroacoustic and free improvised music through the electric guitar and effects. Influenced early on by rock and progressive music, and later by Schoenberg, Xenakis and related sound worlds, he focuses on instrumental and sonic combinations, ambient noise and texture in search of a personal sonic signature. Active on the London, Chelmsford and Southend scenes since 2019, he has performed with Kate Carr, Phil Durrant, John Bisset, Tasos Stamou and others.
