OLGA KSENDZOVSKA

Olga Ksendzovska

OLGA KSENDZOVSKA is a pianist, singer, composer, and performer experienced in various musical styles and genres. These days she prefers improvised music for its flexibility. To her, it’s a window into the decision-making that different people employ to come up with music on the spot. Starting, as most children do, with classical music, her musical life took her through many genres and bands. Genre has never been a focus for Olga’s musical practice, she tends to regard music as a practice of purposefully organized sound rather than sets of rules and traditions.

Improvisation has always played a key role in Olga’s relationship with music. As a kid, she discovered the idea of improvising on her own, by setting books of artworks on her piano instead of sheet music and playing to those. She went to college to study jazz improvisation and quickly realised that she wanted to go in a completely different direction. The momentous event that set her on her path was discovery of Present Time Composition (PTC) workshops, developed and taught by Alan Bern. PTC clicked with her immediately and she has been using those ideas in her practice ever since.
